Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Nuumey.
Is Nuumey free?
Yes, everything is free during early access. After that, we plan a free first month when you sign up, then a monthly subscription to keep using the app. We are not planning a forever-free tier. We will confirm pricing and give you plenty of notice before any charges begin.
Does Nuumey connect to my bank?
No. Nuumey does not link to your bank account and never will. You log transactions manually. This keeps your data private and means Nuumey works with any bank, anywhere.
Is my data safe?
Your data is stored securely in Supabase (EU region) with row-level security so only you can access your personal budget data, even at the database level. For joint budgets, only invited members can access that budget's data. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
What is envelope budgeting?
Envelope budgeting is a method where you divide your income into named categories (envelopes) at the start of every month. You spend from each envelope and stop when it is empty. It is one of the most effective budgeting methods because it makes spending decisions concrete and visible.
What happens to unspent money at the end of the month?
It carries forward. If you had £30 left in your Groceries envelope, it is still there next month. You only need to top it up to your target, not start from zero. This is how real money works.
What is the buffer goal?
The buffer is a one-month safety net. Enough money saved that you are living on last month's income, not this month's. When you hit your buffer target, you have broken the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle. It is the main goal the whole app is built around.
Can I use Nuumey on my phone?
Yes. Use the web app at app.nuumey.co.uk in any mobile browser, or add it to your home screen from Safari (iOS) or Chrome (Android). On iPhone, join our Apple Early Access on TestFlight (https://testflight.apple.com/join/ucWUYAV7). On Android, get Nuumey free on Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.uk.nuumey.app).
What is The Pod?
The Pod is Nuu's home inside the app — and you can customise it. Earn gems from challenges, buy themed furniture and wallpapers in the shop, and arrange your room. Nuu's mood reflects your budget health; the decor is all you.
Are there home screen widgets?
Yes. On iOS (TestFlight) and Android, you can add a widget for your favourite envelope balances. Star envelopes on your dashboard to pick which ones show up. More sizes and layouts are on the roadmap.
Can I share a budget with my partner?
Yes. Create a shared budget and invite your partner by email or username. You'll both see the same envelopes, bills, and transactions for that budget. You can still keep a private budget for just you. Switch between them anytime.
Will my budget sync between phone and web?
Yes. Your budget syncs through your account. On joint budgets, signing in pulls the latest from the cloud before uploading local changes, so partners see the same envelopes, bills, and transactions.
Can I save toward a goal with friends?
Yes. Shared goals let you invite others to save toward one target together. Everyone sees progress; contributions come from each person's own budget.
Do friends see my spending?
Nuu buddies only share your Nuu's mood and streak — not balances or transactions. For real shared money, use a joint budget or shared goal.
What if I go over budget?
It happens. The Wheels came off flow helps you recover without shame. It shows what is over and lets you move unused budget from other envelopes to cover it. Every month is a fresh start.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can export everything as a JSON file from Settings at any time. You can also import it back on any device. Your data is always yours.
How does it compare to other apps?
Most budgeting apps are either too complicated, too expensive, or just too boring. Nuumey does not require bank access, has a warmer, friendlier feel, and is designed for real people not accountants. We do not charge you upfront, and we do not overwhelm you with charts. Just a simple system that actually works.
